About the Job

TERI is seeking a Project Associate to join the Centre for Climate Modelling (CCM) team in India. The Project Associate will support the vision of CCM to help in different projects activities.

The Centre for Climate Modelling focuses on addressing the knowledge gaps in climate change science and develops a better understanding of climate variability at various spatial and temporal scales in an effort to effectively link climate science to policy research.

With its unique integrated focus, TERI-s Centre for Climate Modelling in this context seeks to build its climate modelling skills to effectively use it for better understanding of the regional changes and their links to policy.

The information generated would serve the purpose for impact and vulnerability and adaptation assessments.

The group-s activity spectrum ranges from the use of state-of-the-art global and regional climate models, such as CCSM 3.0, CESM 1.0 ,GFS and Met Office Unified Model (GCMs) and PRECIS , WRF , NorESM and COAWST (regional coupled) (GCMs), to linking these regional climate projections to various Impact Assessment Models, such as ADCIRC (for storm surge and coastal circulation), SWAT (for water resources), DSSAT (for agriculture), and MIKE (for urban flooding and storm surges).

Research associate qualification

• M.Sc./M.Tech Degree in Atmospheric/ Earth/ Climate Sciences/ Oceanography/ hydrology/ Environmental Science or closely related discipline with core subjects of Mathematics or Physics.
• 0-3 years of relevant work experience in a developing world context
• Exceptional research and writing skills
• Prior knowledge of fundamentals of climate change science, Earth & atmospheric sciences, weather and climate modelling, impact modelling and visualisation techniques.
• Working knowledge of scientific analytical tools like Python, R, Matlab, Stata etc.
• Working knowledge of analysis and visualisation tools like, Ferret, GrADS, NCL, CDO, etc.
• Prior knowledge on atmospheric dynamics and interactions would be an added advantage.
• Should have exceptional programming skills with Python, R, MatLab
• Expertise on Linux as an operating system.
• Exceptional communication skills, including written and oral are essential
• Express complex problems with brevity and preciseness and ability to articulate intertwined ideas cogently, both verbally and in writing
• An analytical and creative mind who can come up with innovative solutions to tackle complex problems
• Fluency in English, and atleast one regional language
