Shell.ai Hackathon for Sustainable and Affordable Energy: Agricultural Waste Challenge Powered by Udacity, IIT Madras and Ortec.

Shell.ai Hackathon for Sustainable and Affordable Energy brings together brilliant minds passionate about digital solutions and AI, to tackle real energy challenges and help build a lower-carbon world where everyone can access and afford energy.

About the Challenge

This year, Shell, together with Udacity, IIT Madras and Ortec, invite you to participate in the Agricultural Waste Challenge.

Agricultural waste can be used to generate energy. There is a wide range of waste-to-energy technologies which reduce the amount of agricultural waste, provide a local energy source that can power communities and industries, and can potentially lead to a reduction in methane and CO2 emissions.

In this hackathon, you will have a chance to design a sustainable and efficient agricultural waste collection network, by predicting the waste generation potential in a given geography. You will be working with cutting-edge remote sensing data on local vegetation.

The challenge will allow you to showcase your technical prowess and creativity, as well as contribute to solutions that can help create a lower-emissions world. Are you ready to take up the challenge and transform the agricultural waste collection industry?

Eligibility & Prizes

Guidelines

  • The submissions will be evaluated in real-time. We will first evaluate if your solution is feasible i.e. whether all the constraints of the technical problem statement are met. In the case of a feasible solution, your score will be calculated based on the cost function provided in the problem statement document. The public leaderboard based on this score will be visible throughout the competition. The private leaderboard will be used for the final ranking and will be made available post the award ceremony.
  • You will have to upload your output on the problem page as a solution.csv file. A sample solution.csv file will also be provided for your guidance. You will not have to submit your code files.
  • The total number of submissions allowed by each participant or team member is 2000. The maximum number of submissions each participant or team member can make in a day is 100.
  • In case of malpractice or non-compliance with the rules of the competition or HackerEarth’s terms of service, your submissions can be disqualified by admin.
  • You can use any tools or libraries for building your solution. There is no restriction on the tools that you can use.
