A statement of purpose that answers questions like, "Why are an applicant interested in a specific project?" must be submitted with internship applications. What particular training, abilities, and experience does a candidate have about the project? What are the applicant's long-term professional goals? What part of it does this project play? What function does an IITB internship have in the professional plan? The following list is only indicative, and candidates are urged to consider other issues while formulating their statement of intent.

Selection procedure

Applications are initially screened as part of the selection process, and then a test or interview is conducted.

Selection is based on a student's consistently outstanding academic performance (relative rank in the class or university), extracurricular activities, participation in and recognition from competitions like Techfest, Olympiads, and National Talent Search Exams, as well as performance in the interview.

Candidates from outlying areas who are summoned for an interview will be compensated with a return train ticket using the quickest route. Both the original ticket and a photocopy of the ticket for the return trip must be submitted.

Only IITB academics will serve as the interns' advisors.

One faculty member's recommendation only will be taken into consideration.

If a faculty member's proposal does not have an intern, he or she may choose from the pool of individuals who submitted other departmental proposals while providing each applicant an equal chance. All candidates should be made aware of this before the interview.

It should be decided on a candidate who has not been chosen for any other proposition.

Accommodations on campus are not possible. Candidates need to make their own travel and lodging arrangements.
