Hi, my name is Myuri Kumaran A/P Sunder. I’m 12 years old. I’m from Malaysia, Selangor. I go to SJKT Saraswathy Sungai Buloh. I like to play the piano and draw comics. I want to be a lawyer when I grow up. I am good at Science, English and Math. I want to study abroad when I grow up. I am a prefect at my school and I play multiple sports, but my favourite is badminton. I am a very energetic person. I really hope that you enjoy my essay to the fullest.
I really love learning Science because it’s a very interesting subject and I find it very fun to learn because we get to do a lot of projects and learn new things about our surroundings that we would have had never even known about. Many other girls and I aspire to be scientists. Based on this, today I am going to talk about Women and Girls in Science Leadership, a New Era of Sustainability. I’m writing an essay with this topic in honour of IDWGS day which is on the 11th of February.
In the past female scientists such as Marie Curie, Rosalind Franklin and Jane Goodall were really famous however they had many troubles when growing to be scientists. They always got mocked by other scientists saying that they couldn’t do it or they should just quit because at that time men thought that women were only useful for cooking and cleaning the house but these women became famous scientists and proved them all wrong. All girls had limited education access and had less political rights than men, which made it harder to prove that whatever a man can do a women can do better.
Most of the most well-known scientist are male like Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin and many more. While that is great and all today we are here to talk about the women in science. Some of these female scientists are Marie Curie that is remembered for her discovery of radium and polonium, and her huge contribution to finding treatments for cancer. Dr Rosalind Franklin discovered the DNA structure. Many more female scientists have discovered new things that some men couldn’t. Most of these discoveries aren’t even known to most of the world and all of these discoveries are just so awesome. Today we are here to talk about the women who are and should be more well-known.
In this new generation women and girls should be leading in Science. There are multiple reasons why women should be leading in science, some of which are better decision making. Research shows that girls have better decision making skills than boys. A diverse leadership gives a variety of ideas and creativity. Girls being in science leadership also holds economic and social benefit. One of these new female scientists are Kizzmekia S. Corbet who is an immunologist and contributed to a COVID-19 vaccine. Can you imagine, being able to help people prevent a disease by using a vaccine that you created?
All of these women are role models for us to become just as big and to help just as many people as they did. The amount of professions available in the world are increasing; so are the people that are working or studying in those new professions . It’s not bad that it’s happening , but the number of people that are interested in becoming scientists are decreasing ,especially the girls. I have so many friends that find science interesting but don’t want to be scientists. If you like science and you’re good at it you should take your chances and head in that path.
We are entering a new generation which also means a new era. In this new era the world is slowly getting destroyed and we are going to need more scientists to save the world, especially girl scientists so we can build a more sustainable life with no diversity gaps.
In conclusion, women should be more capable of making their dreams come true. No matter if you’re poor or rich always work hard and never give up. Women and girls should be able to do whatever they want and there shouldn’t be any limit to what they want to do. Science is something that is very important in our daily lives and girls should be a part of that and join the science community even participating in a school science fair, a research paper anything that can show that you have participated in a care for science and that women and girls in science is a new topic that everyone should be aware of. Feminism is something that is a world renowned subject. I hope you enjoyed my essay about the Women and Girls in Science Leadership, A new Era of Sustainability and have a happy and great IDWGS day!!! Thank You. Bye!
