About India Fellow
India Fellow is an 18-month transformative social leadership program designed for curious professionals eager to live and work alongside communities, discovering their leadership potential to bring about social change. It offers an experiential journey to immerse in India’s diverse realities and strive to build a better future.
Since 2010, India Fellow has supported 250 fellows from various academic and professional backgrounds. These fellows have worked with over 80 partner organizations nationwide, engaging in innovative projects supported by mentors who are leaders from different sectors. Our fellows have been at the forefront of social ventures, tackling complex issues in healthcare, livelihoods, financial inclusion, education, social equity, climate change, human rights, governance, and more.
Philosophy
India Fellow believes that the development of India is everyone's responsibility. Talented changemakers are needed across all sectors to deeply understand the country's challenges and opportunities. By exposing future leaders—bankers, scientists, bureaucrats, teachers, entrepreneurs—to these broader realities, we aim to develop committed and passionate leaders who will contribute significantly to societal development.
Program Design
1. Working with Communities
Fellows spend most of their time at the grassroots level with leading social organizations. Living in rural or peri-urban areas, they engage deeply with community complexities, gaining sensitivity and a profound understanding of society.
2. Training
Over the 18 months, fellows undergo 8 weeks of residential training divided into four parts: induction, midpoint, travel workshop, and endpoint. This training is designed to take fellows from knowledge to wisdom, facilitated by sector leaders, academicians, researchers, and practitioners.
3. Continuous Learning
Fellows document their experiences through blogs, vlogs, and podcasts. They participate in virtual mentor sessions, online courses, and collective fundraising, ensuring a balance between action and reflection and developing a comprehensive understanding of civil society action.
4. Mentorship
Fellows are supported by a pool of mentors with deep domain experience. The fellowship ecosystem includes facilitators and professionals who enrich the fellows' experience through interactions and guidance.
Fellow Roles
1. Project Implementation
Design and implement social programs, manage budgets, monitor outcomes, and ensure project goals are achieved.
