Calling all creative minds! The Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Contest 2025 is open for submissions, offering students from around the world a unique opportunity to express their connection to nature and raise awareness about environmental issues through art, writing, and more. The final submission date is June 9, 2025.

About the Contest

Now in its 14th year, the Ocean Awareness Contest provides a platform for students aged 11-18 to explore pressing environmental challenges, such as climate change, through creative media. The theme for 2025 is “Connections to Nature: Looking Inside, Going Outside”, encouraging participants to reflect on their relationship with the natural world and how it influences their sense of self and community.

Eligibility

The contest is divided into two categories based on age:

• Junior Division: Ages 11-14
• Senior Division: Ages 15-18

Sub-Themes

Participants can choose from the following sub-themes:

1. Generational Knowledge – How the wisdom of past generations informs our connection to nature.
2. Concrete Jungle – Exploring urban environments and their impact on natural connections.
3. Resilience – Nature’s ability to adapt and how humans can contribute to its recovery.
4. Healthy Environments, Healthy Humans – The link between environmental health and human well-being.
