International School of Dravidian Linguistics is organizing a National Seminar on Gender in Indian Languages: Grammatical, Semantical and Sociological Aspects from the 15th to 18th of February 2023. Collaboration with the Central Institute of Indian Languages is expected.

With regard to gender and language use there exist many intriguing discussions
among linguists. Gender in Indian Languages differ in elaborateness and complexity, especially in grammatical, semantic and sociological aspects. In Linguistics, gender is a feature of the noun, reflected on elements that may or may not be overtly marked. It may also be reflected in more unusual targets, such as adverbs, adpositions, or complementizers. Gender is of theoretical interest in typology, morphology, and syntax, as well as for theories of the lexicon. Recently, the central concept of gender has increasingly adopted an interdisciplinary approach to analysis. Sociolinguistics, psychology, and neuroscience are the different disciplines in which the gender concept is widely discussed.

The four days seminar aims to look at the Gender concept in Linguistics beyond the
perspectives of its grammatical features upto its expansion to semantic and sociological aspects which are significant in this era.
