Contest Details As we approach a year filled with significant global elections, The New York Times wants to hear from teenagers about what shapes their political and civic identities. Whether you choose to write, draw, compose, or film, your submission should explore one or more of the following themes:

Themes to Explore:

  • Your Identity and Beliefs: How do your personal values and identity influence your views on the world?
  • Conversations Across Divides: Have you had discussions with people who have different views? What did you learn?
  • Issues You Care About: What social, political, or environmental issues matter most to you?
  • Information and Disinformation: How do you navigate the sea of information and misinformation in today's world?
  • Hope for the Future: What are your hopes for your country or the world in the coming years?

Submission Guidelines:

  • Who Can Enter: Students aged 13 to 19, attending middle or high school anywhere in the world.
  • What to Submit: You can submit any form of digital media, including essays, poems, paintings, videos, songs, podcasts, comics, or infographics. Along with your work, include an artist’s statement (up to 400 words) explaining how your piece connects to the chosen theme.
  • Submission Format: All submissions must be uploaded online through the designated submission link.

Reward: Selected works will be published on The New York Times website and app, and may also appear in print. You will retain full copyright to your work, allowing you to share and use it as you wish after publication.
